CCT ACT AMENDMENT

Nigerian Senate today controversially amended the act establishing Code of Conduct Tribunal in an apparent PDP onslaught the lawmakers made good their threat of weakening the executive. By this amendment the National Assembly has effectively transferred control of the tribunal to the national assembly. This amendment came hours after Senate President Bukola Saraki lost bid to stop his corruption trial currently ongoing at CCT in the Court of Appeal sitting Abuja.

This amendment has brought to fore growing weakness of the ruling party in the national assembly APC has remained fragmented and factionalized since the inauguration of National Assembly and emergency of Senator Bukola Saraki and Senator Ike Ekweremadu as Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively. The House of Representatives had earlier passed the amendment and forwarded same to the senate for concurrence it is unlikely that President Muhammadu Buhari will sign this amendment into law.
